Toyota dealers and their part number

Why when ordering the same parts from different dealers i get given different part numbers?

N/STK FIFTH GEAR T33336-42040 (my local dealer) the one i bought the parts from
N/STK FIFTH GEAR T33336-12060 another dealer on-line
N/STK FIFTH GEAR T33336-42030 another dealer by phone

I gave my Vehicle reg number and VIN/chassis number to all dealers...VERY confusing

And to make confusion even worse:
33336-42040 = fifth gear for RAV4.2 and 4.3. not all models tough, but not 4.1
33336-12060 = fifth gear for RAV4.1 (all models)
33336-42030 = fifth gear for 4.2 and 4.3 for all models

I feel quite let down by toyota for this. Why is it sooo difficult to order the right parts?? Cant this be cleared up by toyota? I have a 4.1 so if your right PIM ive been sold the wrong parts (42040) but if i order 12060 will this fix my problem..? aaagh

As far as i can tell, that's indeed the case.
The other versions will not fit your RAV4.1
Most dealers are fairly lazy and don't use the VIN to look things up, so they get to order the wrong parts on occasion. Laziness on their side i assume. With the current difficult economic times you would bet such behavior isn't showing up, since everyone has to do their best to please customers or run out of business, but i guess some companies still can afford such behavior.

Take all these numbers down to the dealer.
Get them to run through them.
I know you are not impressed, neither am I by the kids (or pros ) working at the parts department
