Default 2012s no longer can be ordered......

Was at the dealer today to check out the Prius V. The salesman said that they had a meeting this morning and 2012 RAV4s can no longer be ordered. They only have available existing inventory and what is in transit.

No details released to them yet on 2013s. Possibly the LA Auto Show at the end of November it may be released. I would suspect if you can't order 2012s then the plants must be gearing up to retool for the new 4.4s.

He also confirmed that the 3.5 V6 would not be offered.

With no V6 option apparently the norm for the 2013 RAV4, Toyota may lose market share since people who would have bought a RAV4 primarily because it had a V6 option while others did not may well look elsewhere and take other factors into account when deciding which make of vehicle to buy.

It would be interesting what % of Rav4s had the V6 option. I believe I read that only 5% had the 3rd row option so I am sure that will be gone also.

In a few years the V6 Rav will be the desirable hotrod Rav that everybody wants and won't care about any problems at the time of production.

In the USA, 3rd row option also exist for the 4 Cyl. But that worked ok because of it's boxy shape in the rear. With newer (more streamlined) models, I bet this option will be gone.

No idea if this is accurate or where they get their data from, but this site claims V6's accounted for 30% of Rav4s for 2012.
2012 Toyota RAV4 Data, Info and Specs | GTcarlot.com

Scrolling through the other years, this a big spike. Most other years it seems to hover just above 20%.

We haven't even seen the new version yet, so who knows may be it will be built like a tank and completely bullet proof (within couple of years). As for the V6, I guess they would never remove the money maker, if you look at dealer lots you will see a bunch of RAVs have I4 and only few have V6. I guess Toyota removed V6 option because of low demand.
