Hi, Interesting to see but I think it is getting to look like a Mitsubishi outlander.
I have had a 2012 RAV4 Diesel automatic 2.2 since September and getting 8 ltr/100km.
It has a Webasto Diesel powered heater with timer and remote which is working well as it is getting colder here now and soon the snow will arrive.

From those photos, I would not want to tank the new model to far off the paved road......
I will have to see it in person to see how strong it really is.
Also, where's the spare? I've come to like it hanging out in the back. Did the new model lose storage?

Yuma,

Yuma,
Quote from the review;

"As Drive has recently reported, the new RAV4 will break with tradition and offer a conventional rear tailgate that opens upwards, not outwards, and the spare wheel is hidden in the boot rather than mounted on the rear door. Toyota hasn't revealed the dimensions of the new RAV4, but as with many new-model introductions, the new SUV is expected to be bigger than ever before."

I think they've lost the plot - it's HUGE.

The original RAV4 was 3-door and sold on being a short and handy vehicle. Then out came the 5-door 4.1, quite ugly.
The 4.2 estate was sold with a 'bonus' being that it was about 15" longer than its predecessor - I thought that wasn't a good move. An even more sad move was the cessation of the 3-door production in 2006 allegedly due to poor sales (not from me!) so how do Suzuki manage to produce a look-alike 3 door and still do even now? Anyone tried the Suzuki?

Too bad the US won't get the diesel engine, or a manual transmission.

I agree with you about the size.. I actually liked my 2002 RAV size better than my 2010 which has more room than I really need.

I drove a Susuki and I think it's junk... as far as handling and ride, etc. The only other smallish SUVs that seem worth much are the

Honda CRV, pretty good all around

the Mazda CX7 - amazing handling and economy, but could use a bigger engine

and the new Suburu Forester 250 hp, 6 spd turbo which I am going to check out one of these days. It's quietly showed up on the scene recently.. click here

That Subaru Forester turbo looks nice. Resembles the 4.3 RAV!
Comes only with a CVT, together with a manual mode to simulate a 6 speed.

My wife's not happy. No V6. She loves her 08 w/V6.
I'd rather she get a Highlander anyway. More room for me than the RAV.
