May be you could order one that you like from you local dealer.
They are still manufacturing them; should be easy to get this done now.

Four regional dealers in our area have a total of six 2013 RAV4s in stock, only one is FWD, so at least they are available although the dealer may have to order one.

Both of my local dealers here in Wisconsin have only the AWD 2013 models. Yes, it is cold and snowy up here, but it is also relatively flat. My 2009 RAV4 is 4WD, but I'm not sure it has hardly ever kicked into that mode. All of my other vehicles have been FWD. I would like to test drive a 2013 FWD, but can't find one.

Most of the time, you won't know if it kicked into the 4WD mode.
The only time I feel the rear kicking in is if I am starting the car on slick ice.
Otherwise it is seamless.

Note: 4WD dash light will not come on. If this comes on while driving, this means something is wrong.

Seamless for sure! I can only tell when it's not working (with 4WD light on) because of an ABS sensor issue. With it disabled anything but light throttle produces a loud protest from the front wheels. I could even get a little torque steer out of it, but not enough to be much fun. Alas, now that I replaced the ABS sensor, the front tires are safe!

My question is do the 4.4s have the same great 4WD system.

Here in the Southeast, AWD RAV4's are very hard to find. The dealerships only stock the FWD models.

Default AWD vs. FWD.

I have seen a single FWD XLE model at the dealer I use; rest are AWD. More profit margin of course.
