I bought a base (LE) model 2015 Rav4 yesterday and the sales person told me that my new Rav4 had an XM tuner built in and told me all about the first 3 months free. I didn't double check to verify it actually had a XM radio before I purchased it and as I found out today, it doesn't have XM capability.
So my question are:
#1 is it possible to upgrade the radio in my Rav4 with the next model up which does have XM in it?
#2 How much should this normally cost me to get this done at the dealership? I don't want any aftermarket stuff hanging off my dash.
#3 Do all the cars already have the antenna prewired and ready for just plugging in the new head unit?
Thanks for your help! So far other than being really really disappointed about not having XM, I really love the Rav4 so far, much better than my old Escape!
I think the best thing to do would be to go aftermarket, or live without it. The LE does have the option (from the factory) to get the upgraded head unit (called Entune Audio Plus), which includes XM. This is the standard unit on the XLE model. I know that it costs like $2,800 from the parts department for the head unit, and I'm not sure if everything is prewired (although I suspect that it is, since the Audio Plus is an OPTION on the LE).
That's just very expensive to do the upgrade (if it's even possible) just to have XM...too bad your sales person didn't know his products better...
I'm astonished at how many salespeople know NOTHING of the cars they are selling -- yet they always get an attitude when I (the customer) allude to having done some research. Like I'm stepping on their uninformed toes if they overhear me telling my wife something about differences in trims on the showroom floor...
The dealership doesn't care, basically told me I bought what I bought even though the sales person admitted she told us it had an XM radio. Their solution was for us to go buy an external tuner that plugs into the AUX port on the factory radio or take it to a local car audio place and get an after market radio.
I can't believe they wouldn't do anything to at least attempt to make this right.
I called and talked to another manager at the dealership and they are going to let me trade up to an XLE model for a reasonable cost. So right now it seems they made it right as long as what he said is a reasonable cost is a reasonable cost. Going to stop by afterwork!
