How much can a RAV4 take?

I bought my first Toyota RAV4 back in June 2016. It's a 2016 RAV4 Sport and I love it!

Until yesterday it was flawless. Not even a scratch. And then a Nissan Armada decided to rear end me.....twice. Not sure if he panicked and hit the gas instead of the brake but yeah....twice.

I haven't had it looked at yet since we're still deciding whose insurance is going to pay but the liftgate is pushed in pretty far and rear bumper is up over the tailgate. The bumper is still attached but cracked all over the place.

Anyone know how much a RAV4's frame can take? I'm worried that it's bent which means totaling the car. I have GAP insurance so I'm covered since it's just 6 months old. Oh but soooo sad about my little blueberry.

The RAV4 does not have a frame. It's a unibody construction. If all your jams look like as before, then there is no damage to the body.

In your case, both of your quarter panels are not even touched. There is 0% chance of damage to the body overall. In fact it looks like a pretty cheap fix since all you'll need is the gate, bumper, and some hardware. They won't even need to paint/blend any panels, which is good, since factory paint is the best kind of paint.

That's only about $3500 in body work. Very cheap for a new car.

Anything that's bent gets replaced since its all part of the "crumple zone". They don't "fix" anything now days. New parts and paint, you're on your way.

sorry to hear that !! that's one of my biggest fear getting rear ended. I considered myself a good driver but damn you never know.
Car is fixable and it doesn't look like it doesn't need too much body work.
Don't use your insurance or you will have to pay the deductible.
Probably the value of the vehicle will get affected because of the crash once it shows on the car fax sticks for ever .
I got into an accident (Nissan Murano) a bit more than a year the other guy cut me off hitting me on the driver courter panel, it didn't looked too bad but still couldn't open the driver door completely all the lights on the dashboard were blinking but still did make it back to the hotel (vacation trip) after all the police paperwork my car got towed to the body shop same night (Toyota collision shop) drove a rental for a month repair cost was close to $8k only paid the deductible $500 and the value of my car went down $5k car fax report showed structural damage !wtf go figure !! two months later it got replaced by our 2016 XLE good luck

I'm hoping to use his insurance since it was his fault! However, the catch is that he works for the Mexican consulate so I'm dealing with the government and their insurance people. Should be a headache on top of the physical pain I'm in.

I consider myself a good driver too but I can't control everyone on the road. This is the 2nd time I've been stopped at a light and had someone rear end me.

Doesn't look too bad. They'll probably replace the bumper, bumper cover, and liftgate. Not a terribly expensive fix, although it will show on your car's history. At least the paint will match with the car being so new! Glad you're okay though and hopefully the insurance process goes smoothly.

These days even a small dent can cost $500 to repair - I know that from experience! Seems that I recall that some years ago Consumer Reports did some rear-end crash testing on, I believe a new Gen. 2 RAV and the repair cost was about $7500. The gen.4 may be easier to repair but I'm betting that the cost will still be in that neighborhood. Unless the Pigmada which rear-ended you has diplomatic licence plates they should have U.S. insurance and that should pay for the repairs.

Really sorry to see that, I'm wondering how fast he hit you? I'd guess around 5K in damage. They can make it look new again, and better rear than front.

Sorry to see your Rav got hit. Hopefully the blind spot sensors are not damaged, ive heard of low speed impacts damaging them and they are $600 a piece I believe. Got to love all the electronic gizmos these days!
