Keeping a black RAV4 clean?

If you've ever hung out on a car detailing forum, you know they warn you away from black. Because it shows swirls in your paint and dirt like pollen so much easier.

But what do regular people say? Who aren't freaks about keeping their cars clean like auto detailers are.

Note that if you park your car in a garage every night, you're not going to have as much trouble if you park it outside every day.

I'm looking at buying a RAV4. And I'm looking at the black. How wary should I be?

Garage
I've never owned a black vehicle, but my silver RAV4 doesn't show the dirt. Many times people have complimented me on how nice and clean it is, even when I know it's filthy.

Help RAV4World members help you by providing your car's operating location in your profile page. Climate can cause a RAV4 in Dallas Wisconsin to experience a different set of issues when compared to the same model in Dallas Texas.

I don't want another black car (I'm too lazy). But they sure look great after a clean and polish. Good luck!

Toyota paint is already on the soft side, and black is even softer. yeah it looks good after I polish it every spring, but it doesn't stay like that for very long. my next car will not be black for sure!

A black car is a full time job not just a color. It's not that it's hard to keep clean but that it shows every single imperfection and swirl mark. As Octane said the paint is soft and improper washing techniques can mar it easily. A tunnel wash with brushes is a big no no.

Octane still details cars and I did for many years so we speak with some authority.

Oh, also make sure that the air conditioner is up to the task. Black cars get mighty hot inside and out especially in the south.

It don't care anymore, I just wash it once a week or every too weeks apply armor all on the interior and turtle wax clean and shine on the exterior.

I had a black car years ago, biggest car color mistake I've ever made especially since I lived on a rural, graveled road. Impossible to keep clean . . .probably would be much easier in a setting with entirely paved roads and no or little dust or smoke in the atmosphere. My current RAV doesn't show dirt or dust until it becomes overwhelming.
