Oh well, just another reason not to buy one. When it comes time I'll look for a 2012 V6, but my '06 only has 105K on it.
Maybe the 2018 will float your boat. I'm expecting to be shopping around 2021.

I suppose I'm in a small minority but I love the side hinged tailgate so much that I scurried to get a '12 when I found out it was going away. I've had one since '02 and want to make it as long as I can. Everybody has their own reasons.

  • No rear glass washer spray; only wiper -- Are you sure? What am I suppose to do where my rear glass is full of salt and dirt in winter???
  • No sunglass holder overhead -- will definitely miss this feature. I am sure they could have made one to fit the design
  • No more rear-seat drop levers from the tailgate. -- and Honda made a CRV ad specifically for this feature last year!!!!

Not to worry. We in Canada get the rear washer on all trim levels of '13 RAV4.
Look 2/3 the way down on this spec page:

TOYOTA CANADA: TOYOTA.CA LANGUAGE

I see no reason why US models would not also have this feature. I think the OP is just plain misinformed about no rear washer.

I just went through the 2013 US E-brochure and they list a rear intermittent wiper, but no washer. Looks like they removed the 12V accessory outlet in the cargo area. Also the sliding console armrest and sun visor extenders are on the Limited only.

Have to disagree with your interpretation of the US e-brochure. I believe that washer linking applies to BOTH the front and rear wipers.
It makes no sense that Toyota or any other manufacturer would install a rear wiper without a washer.

I agree, it makes no sense. But the Canadian web site specifically says REAR WIPER/WASHER--the US brochure does not.

I honestly can't wait to be able test drive the 2013 Rav4. 2 major things they improved are the 2 things I hate about my current Rav4; the side swinging door and the lack of manual shift mode.

However, what would have been perfect for me was my 2009 V6 with manual shift mode (better yet, a manual transmission) and at least a pop out glass so I can put stuff in the trunk still when some idiot parks right up behind me so I can't open the rear door.

However, I do like how the new Rav4 looks and if my wife said yes, I think I would trade my 09 V6 Sport for it.

I'm just wondering though if my 16" base Rav4 wheels would fit the new one as I have snow tires mounted on them.

Can you imagine the legal ramifications if the RAV did NOT have a rear washer? As soon as some fool backed into a stationary object, they and their lawyer would be screaming about Toyota's liability over their dirty rear window. With the US being Toyota's biggest and most liability-crazed market, they would damn well cover their a$$es with a rear washer.

On page 234 of the owner's manual, they talk about using the rear wiper and washer.

I locked my presents in someone else's car, then I locked my car in someone else's presence.
