2013 Toyota Rav4 , 33,000 Miles

Hi, I just purchased a 2013 Toyota Rav4 with 33,000 Miles. The dealer ( Honda ) is selling me an extended Platinum Warranty for $ 1,500 ( 4 years , 60,000 , miles , $ 100 deductible )
What is the difference between an extended Warranty and New car coverage ?
Car Shield is offering a new car coverage for 2,500 for 5 years 125,000 miles.

Please assist, I found this forum through google search and I also emailed Jerry. He is out till end of this week:/

Thanks
Taz

The Toyota Platinum zero deductible warranty is a much better deal than what the Honda dealer is offering. I sent you a private message with more details.

Unfortunately he is over the 3 year mark with a 2013.

Car shield is offering new car warranty. I am just trying to understand difference between New car warranty and Extended Warranty. The first owner bought it in end of May 2013. The dealer I bought it from says I have some warranty left. Thank you

A new car warranty is different from the so-called "extended warranties" legally as the Toyota and other companies' "extended warranty" is actually a Service Agreement and is covered by some different laws and regulations. For a detailed explanation one may wish to visit the FTC web site (quite a lot to wade through!): https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/busi...l-warranty-law

In a nutshell, the new car warranty is "bumper to bumper", meaning that everything is covered. Except tires which are supposed to warranted by the tire manufacturer. An Extended Warranty or Vehicle Service Agreement will cover all the major stuff but usually not the plastic interior parts, or rubber parts like seals, weatherstripping, belts and hoses. Any item deemed to be a "wear" part like door hinges or brake pads will not be covered.

We have a 2013 Rav4 LTD., purchased new with a 2 year extended warranty, that included some "free" oil changes. Problems with previous vehicle(Subaru) were the reason. Other than an initial alignment problem(wheel off centre), we have had no other problems. Do not think that it was a waste of money as we still have about 2 years of warranty left. Would I purchase the warranty again - probably not.
