Flash Drive in USB Weirdness

I've moved music to a flash drive that works fine on my desktop. When I insert it into the USB, the music shows up when pressing browse and I can advance tracks one time then it seems to just get stuck on that track and when it ends it starts again. Trying to advance or reverse to another track just stops the present track for a second and then it continues on.

I'm using a SanDisk Cruzer Fit formatted as FAT32 and the audio files are MPEG4.

I just took delivery of the vehicle on Thursday.

The Operating System, Device Driver and Audio all show: DU.70.64

Thanks,

Nic

I discovered that I was pressing right and left on the control instead of up and down. :)

I also discovered that the head unit plays mp3 and AAC just the same.

There is still a little weirdness that I can't seem to resolve. It seems as though the "random" setting under the browse window must be manually pressed (even when random is pressed on the firs screen) before it will advance forward and reverse randomly.

I've still not been able to play "random" from USB without making sure the "random" button on the audio screen is lit, then choosing "browse" and finding "random" on the songs list and pushing that button. It then plays randomly just fine until the vehicle is shut off. It then will begin randomizing but only from the songs of the artist that was playing just before the vehicle was shut off.

I have made several calls to Toyota who has tried to replicate the issue and they cannot.

I have emailed them several times.

Got a call this morning from someone at Toyota who insists that the problem has to be in the way in which files are being saved. She said she will send a usb with music on it - I'll be anxious to see that.

She said that in the USB mode, there should not even be a browse option showing. (?)

She also said that it should be possible to have folders.

She acknowledged that they were aware of the "bug" upon restart of the vehicle and they are working on a solution.

I have an appt with the dealer on Wednesday so we'll see.

Here is what I received from Toyota a couple of days ago: "Our product specialist has confirmed that Toyota is also aware of the USB random performance concern and is working on an update to address it. Please periodically check with your local Toyota dealer for the latest software update information."

Hopefully we will see a software update in the near future!

Maybe there is the last line of this tsb says "USB Audio Playback resets after key cycle" which is what I think is happening. When I turn off the vehicle then restart it will play the last song and any songs by that artist. You need to click browse then songs then random to get it to play other songs/artists. Resets back after each engine restart. I have an appointment next week for a recall inspection I will have ask them to install the new firmware and see if that fixes the problem.

Read my post here from yesterday:
http://www.rav4world.com/forums/124...um-audio-file-playback-modes.html#post2140313

The system DOES remember what you are doing across "key cycles", but there are a few gotchas. When you start the car, the current song playing when you shut if off should resume.

Gotcha: If that song completes before the system has time to index all files on the drive, it goes to a default playback mode. (the details of which are a mystery) After its done indexing, it returns to your chosen random mode.

If the drive is fully indexed before that song completes, it will continue in whatever random mode you were in before.

Assuming you have all files appropriately tagged for artist, album and song title, you have 2 or 3 random modes, which are completely undocumented.
After the drive is indexed, on the audio playback screen where it shows the artwork and tags details, underneath all that it will show 3/15 or the like, where 3 is the track number and 15 is the number of tracks in the album. That should be true in either the artist or album tabs.

Now open the "songs" tab and those numbers should indicate the total number of songs on the drive. Mine will show something like 2378/5619 where the current song is #2378 of 5619 total. So it appears the system actually remembers which of the 3 tabs you were into when you selected "random". But only the songs tab has that unique "random" selection at the top of the complete song list. If you select that, and avoid the above-mentioned gotchas, the system will remain in a true random song mode until you make some change to the drive. Once ANY changes to the drive are made, the system goes back into that mysterious default mode and you have to repeat the above steps.

Well I don't know which model you have, or the head unit, so I can't say much else. But mine remembers after a fashion. Just be sure you are selecting "random" from the actual list of all songs (the only place this will be found), and not "random" from the song playback screen.

I have the premium version. I click random on the song list every time and it will not randomly play songs after a restart. The guy from Toyota that called me had me test this while on the phone with him numerous times and he confirmed I have the problem that he was working on.

One of your posts indicated your Entune software version to be 70.64.

In March, I got my dealer to update the software, to version 70.69, and this fixed the non remembering of the random selection. I believe you have an older version of the software. If so, you might want to take it to your dealer and get the update. This might solve your problem.

Good luck.

So...I have a brand new RAV4 Ltd Hybrid, with all the bells & whistles. Today I copied a bunch of MP3 files to a USB thumb drive. Went out to the car, plugged in the thumb drive to the USB port below the center stack. It never shows up under "Audio" sources.

Anyone know what the requirements are for a USB thumb drive to work as a valid source for music files?

Thanks.

I have the Limited with premium audio, which I got in mid June and I have no problems with the Random not starting where it left off. I can use folders too, but those are just for audio books. All my music is in root and all the songs album names were mass changed to be names of types music I want to listen to - EG Country, Classical, Pop, etc. I did this because of the folder limitations. The indexing is good and it is bad, depending on what you are trying to do.

Yepp, I updated the firmware from entune app. I have the latest as the car reports no update available to the system - and I still have the same issue.

The car doesn't remember what parent album/genre/folder we were playing when we turned off the car. It resumes the same song but hitting next just does random things including playing the same song repeatedly.

I just got a 2017 Hybrid and notice the same things.
While the system is "Indexing" you can't skip songs in random mode.
It either keeps jumping back to the beginning of the same song or goes to another song in the same album for me.

If you press the "browse" button it will show a message if its still indexing, or just list the songs, etc if its done...

When I first got the Rav4 I used a 32GB drive with probably only 14 Gig of music and it indexed really fast.
Then I got a 64gig drive and put about 35gig of music on it and noticed the issues...

I might just go back to smaller drive.

I have my own weirdness going on. I have some books on tape that I transferred to a USB. I labeled them and gave them numbers so they would play in order. They played in order fine until recently. Now the system seems to be playing the chapters in a random order. I took the USB and plugged it into my laptop and the order is correct. I plug the USB back into my system and the numbers are randomized. It started happening on my 2014 RAV. Now it is happening in my new 2017 RAV.

I too listen to audio books. To get around all the weird Entune problems, I just put each book in a separate folder and leave the names as they were imported to ITunes. I just copy the books individually from ITunes to the separate folders and they work perfect. I load books either from CDs or from the library. ITunes names them so they stay in order and I have never had a problem with sequence.
Are you sure you do not have random selected on your car?
