Found the perfect PHONE HOLDER

I drive a LOT and have to have my phone mounted in all my vehicles. I'm not a idiot turd that holds it in their lap or hand trying to navigate (yeah, I'm calling out those that do). I tried a couple different holders bought locally in my new 15 RAV4 but didn't like them so back they went.

Tried one I found on ebay and LOVE it. It perfectly fits in that rather useless cupholder that's kinda shoved half under the center console. The flexineck is VERY sturdy. Fits a Galaxy S6 with thick case. Has charge ports galore! There's a 12v socket in the plug itself, 2 in the base, and 2 USB charge ports in the base. They seem to be high output as it keeps my phone fully charged all day, and will recharge while being used. Leads me to think they are 2A output USB ports. And it positions the phone perfectly, even allowing it to rest against the console for extra support so it doesn't vibrate or move around when driving.

edit... cant fracking post a link so go to ebay and search item 371005554144

Just thought I'd share :)

You need 5 posts on this forum. We had to do it because of all the spammers. I recently joined a Star Trek forum and you have to be a member for 14 days before you can send a PM or have an avatar or a signature, etc.

Phone too heavy to use magnet mount that quickdto have. Decided to make my own. Will also mount my GPS. Work great.

Thank you. I kinda like the idea of this type. I do use my awkwardly placed cup holder, but not all the time. I'm assuming you can just take it out whenever needed. This seems more secure than a magnet also. I'm not someone that is looking at it very often either, but I like that it has charge ports too.

I found one that suits my needs perfectly! Here were my prerequisites:
- phone at high dash level
- on/near vent to aid in cooling the phone while plugged in
- preferably no adhesive stuck to dash, etc.
- not blocking any screens, buttons, etc.

So here's what I got! Hubby's Galaxy S8 Plus in the photos. The suction cup is actually made from that sticky silicone sort of material, so can stick to slightly textured surfaces like this silver painted trim...not just glass. And only $7.99 at Marshall's...

Sorry about the delay replying Oli. That mount ended up losing suction, so I picked up another with the same design by a different brand. I think the old one was just a regular rubber suction cup where this one is actually silicone. The regular rubber one seemed to pick up a bit of the texture that is on that piece of trim and wouldn't grip it any more. This one is holding up much better. My problem is the heat of South Florida...it can melt everything...especially with a dark colored vehicle with a black interior. We'll see how it does this Summer :wink!

After testing 5 phone mounts with different approaches (windshield cup, air vents...), I came to this one and has been perfect for 3 months and many off-road trips:

Bought for 10€ in amazon:
Product code: B0752YF7Q2
(It's my first post, I still have links disabled)

It has a strong rubber cup that can be fixed to the windshield, but i preferred to use the dashboard lid. The lid is curved, so i cut some foam to place between the cup and the plastic to get a perfect suction.
Now it's as fixed as strong as the first day.

The braces can grip any phone I've tried, even the big ones (Galaxy S8 and so). You just hace to press the phone against the backrest, so the button triggers the braces. It also has a proper bottom brace, that avoids the phone from falling on bumps.

With previous mounts, the phone was falling every time so i had to keep it on the dink cup near the gear.
I've done many very bumpy mountain paths with this one, and the phone has never jumped out.

Thank you for contacting us with your interest in our ProClip products. At this time we do not have a ProClip vehicle mount for the 2016 Toyota RAV4, as the item that was pictured is undergoing redesign due to some issues. The good news is we do anticipate having mounts for this vehicle. However, due to the availability of the vehicles in the local showrooms, we anticipate the mounts to be available in mid-2017. Once we have the mounts available, you will receive a separate email notification letting you know the mounts have become available.

As a helpful idea, it is possible that one of our adjustable console mounts might fit your console very well. This link might help to determine what adjustable console mount might fit your vehicle best. proclipusa link

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

I am happy with my Scosche mount shown above mounted to the right of the wheel on the top of the shiny silver plastic. The same kind of plastic that it is mounted to above. For me, it makes the action similar to working a standard GPS or car radio. I have the plate mounted on the lower half of my phone such that bottom of the phone is about even with the top of the HVAC vent. It is about a month old. We will see how it holds up.

I also have the vent mounted version of the same mount which can work but vibrates a little and suffers from the heater causing phone to overheat effects. It still makes a good option for a rental car.

I have used RAM-Mount products for years in both cars and on our Harley, so I went with their dash sticky mount. It was great until it got cold out and the adhesive eventually fails to stick, even though I followed their directions for cleaning the dash and giving the adhesive ample time to set.

So, I went back to the RAM suction cup on the windshield. It's not ideal as the Rav has more rake to the windshield that our other vehicles. I also tried the Scosche mount and found it wasn't strong enough to hold my iPhone 7+ with a basic Tech 21 case...

So, I'm still searching for that perfect mount - the suction cup is fine, but I'd prefer something that doesn't go on the windshield...

I think this is a better option having it up high so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road too much and doesn’t obstruct view out windshield. There already are two 12volt sockets and a USB port that connects to the car, which I use for charging as well. I like this self clamping mechanism so you don’t have to have any magnets on the back of the phone interfering with nfc or wireless charing but there are magnetic ones.
Don’t have to worry about suction cups loosing their grip or loosing a vent, it does cover the vent slightly but better than being completely covered.

This is what I bought a few weeks back, fantastic! Doesn't block our sight line, doesn't interfere with any vents (especially the center vent) and it is solid, cheap and can run the charge cord up on those days it needs some juice. Thought about getting fancy but this is easy to install and remove (2 minutes to install and get it all hooked up, probably 30 seconds to remove if need be) and not going to leave a glue mark or anything and utilizes wasted space.

An iPhone 7 Plus is just under our line of sight by only a mm or two. I do find it covers the vent a little but that could be because of our larger phones. I didn't really like the idea of manipulating the trim pieces but after I felt they had a bit of play I was more confident. I did get a bit worried about it being right hand drive but I thought it might just sit a little further to the centre with a gap but it fits fine without any gap.
