Windshield distortion

I've had my vehicle for about a month now. Just noticed a distortion a few inches up from the bottom of my windshield. It's not noticeable until I lower my head to pick something up from my center console and move my head back up. Has anyone else noticed this? It's a little annoying now that I'm aware of it.

My windshield has some distortion near the bottom as well but since it's out of my driving sight line it doesn't bother me. And mine is a 4.3.

good to hear.

I noticed the distortion from the drivers seat when looking forward towards the license plate of the car ahead of me at a stoplight. Its a thin (1/4 inch.?) horizontal ribbon of distortion across the license plate.

Wow, is your glass from AGC Automotive? I recently had a windshield put in my 2010 Rav4 with this same distortion. I asked them to order a new one, and when it arrived, we looked at it in the shop, and it also had the distortion. So they ended up installing an OEM windshield, which also has distortion, but its not nearly as bad as the non-OEM distortion was. I gave up, and said I would live with it. I did get an OEM windshield for the price of a non-OEM one after complaining about the distortion, so I guess I didn't do too badly. I'm surprised this would pass an inspection, its a noticeable ribbon that goes all the way across the bottom of the glass.

They are talking about OEM glass since they have 4.4, brand new vehicles.

Ok, more specifically, my question is if the OEM glass in the 4.4 is made by AGC Automotive, because that is what I received from Safelite, and it has the same distortion that is being described. From what I understand, there are multiple glass companies that supply OEM windshields to Toyota.

I was worried that they were defective, and I was the only one receiving distorted windshields.

The 2013 RAV4 has a "Acoustic noise-reducing front windshield"
Just a guess......Maybe this has something to do with it???

When the windshield breaks, I will look for a replacement by Pilkington. I was going through 1-3 windshields a year for 15 years on my Dodge Caravan due to the road is also shared with a concrete recycler / gravel business. I had lots of windshields of different suppliers, and, every one that was not a Pilkington had to be replaced due to distortion or poor fit.

I just looked. Yes the OEM windshield is made by AGC Automotive. I wonder if they(Toyota) would replace it if I complain. The distortion is the whole length of the windshield .

I believe AGC ia Asahi glass co. It is OEM manufacturer for many companies including some Toyotas. However, I might be wrong, the AGC tm is their aftermarket label.

The acoustic reduction is just thicker glass, it is heavier than non-acoustic. I've installed several windshields with the distortion described here and have never heard a complaint. I see it more often with acoustic reduction. IMHO, the thick ceramic band on the bottom of the windshield is what causes the distortion if it is applied at the wrong temperature. I think manufactures get by with it because it so low and not in the view of the driver. I seen it with all glass manufactures including Pilkington.
