Want to get winters but stuck between the two. Reading mixed reviews over the nordics. Blizzaks having shorter tread life.. I am unsure. Please share your stories
Looking at almost the same price for either set of tires on new steelies. Nordics from Canadian Tire and Blizzaks from Costco.
Only downfall is that Costco I need to pay up front. Canadian Tire offers fiancing with no interest & fees with their credit card.
I've had Blizzaks for 1 season on my 2013 XLE and love them. Highly recommended. Here in the GTA and surrounding areas where we had tons of snow and ice last winter, the Blizzaks performed admirably.
We had Blizzak DMV-1 on our Venza and will be putting the same ones on our RAV4. They were the quietest snows I have ever owned and are as capable as any other snows IMO.
I have Blizzaks on my 2010 4.3 and have been thoroughly pleased. At the recommendation of my local tire guy I put Toyo Gsi5's on my 2013. Handle just as well as my Blizzaks in severe winter weather but slightly quieter on dry pavement. Lower cost as well
Oddly, these are the cheapest tires around. Walmart's WeatherTech tires cost even more for some reason haha. In vancouver... so won't be dealing with much snow either..
I have the Goodyear Nordics on my rav, had them on last season as well. They are a bit more noisy and Crappy tire installation was so, so. I had to go elsewhere for rebalancing.
Ah. In the end I went with General Tire Artic Altimiax. Though installed by cambodian tire too.. So will see how they balanced it when I install it when it gets colder...
The altimax arctic is a good tire for the money. They wear very well for a winter. I would recommend getting them studded though, they fall short of top tier tires on the ice.
Hi there- am just debating getting new all seasons (looking at the Bridgestone Dueller H/L Alenza) or winters which would be the Blizzaks. Live in Toronto, but don't drive a ton, so I have gotten away with all seasons for 65K with careful driving.
In searching out reviews I noticed the Volume/Speed rating on the Blizzaks are 100R when my OEM Toyo's are 99H. Did any of you go down on the speed rating with the Blizzaks, and if so, did you notice any issues?
I recently bought some Michelin Latitude X-Ice 2's. I have not driven in the snow yet, but on dry and wet(rain) surfaces the tires are performing very well. They are very close to the OE Grantreks that came on my XLE in terms of feel.
You can get the all new Cooper Discoverer A/T W that can be used all season with the same performance as a snow tire. It has the snow flake logo which means it is rated for snow and ice but don't forget this is a special all season tire. It has less rolling resistance than snow tires so it has increased fuel efficiency. It is also a quiet tire which gives a comfortable ride. It now looks like Cooper tires is giving Nokian a run for their money.
I've been really impressed with the new Blizzak WS80s. Extremely quiet for a snow tire. Haven't had enough "deep" snow to vouch for their winter traction. But seems to bite in dramatically better than OEM on snow-packed/ice conditions.
