After having my 2016 XLE for a week I have my first question:
As I'm driving, especially on the highway, I notice that the hood, right at the front windshield, it wiggles/wobbles, almost like the hood is actually loose (not latched all the way). It's a little annoying since I can see it out of the corner of my eye, and it scared me for a second until I realize that the hood is actually down all the way.
Does anyone else experience this? Does anyone know what I'm talking about??
This was big on the 2013 LE & XLE.. The fix was to open the hood and turn the rubber knobs for the hood.
If I remember, it didn't need much of a turn (counter-clockwise), about 1/4 turn (only the back ones).
Just enough to put more pressure on the hood.
Oh, I believe you 100%. Her's just wiggles a little bit, mine looks as though it will fly over the roof on a windy day at highway speed. I've almost gotten used to it.
If our house sells at the price we want it will be an interesting ride 600+ miles north watching my hood flop around.
I have never seen the hood on my 2015 XLE flutter but I do remember seeing a post where someone took a foam block and cut it to fit and put it in the center of the hood up next to the firewall and he said that solved the problem.
My 2015 fluttered bad even after adjusting the rubber stops, I put the foam strip on it which fixed it, the pic shows my first trial, ¾"x¾" firm foam worked better. My hybrid doesn't flutter.
Thanks for the replies everyone... it's just annoying if anything. At times it does seem like it'll fly open on me, but I'll check out the thread about the foam.
As for the Foam Rubber fix....where do you put it? There some rubber that is mounted on some plastic that provides no support what so ever. As for those hood dampers I can how that would help the hood flutter. What am I missing?
Thanks
I noticed the flutter when the wife and I went on a test drive and thought that Toyota should be making these a little better that this! On my way home with our new Hybrid Ltd I did not notice it, probably because I was trying out other things on the vehicle. I'll check the next time we're in the car but good to know there is a "work around" foam fix. Eye-roll
My 2008 to this day looks like the hood will fly over the car on a very windy day at highway speeds. Nothing I've ever tried fixed it or even made it a little bit better. Her car is not near as bad but the hood moves on it also.
I noticed this on day one as well. I think we should stop referring to it as a "hood" and just call it a "rain deflector for the engine compartment"...
The hood on my'11 RAV doesn't move even at Interstate speeds. Wonder what the reason is for there being some RAVs with hood movement and others even of the same generation with no hood movement . . .
Yes it's strange...I have the same 2008 Limited V6 FWD as RTexasF and my hood has never fluttered. Maybe the robot missed a critical hood weld on the assembly line...
I wonder if installing a bug/hood deflector will help with the movement/vibrations? It should act like a rear 'spoiler' does - as the air flows over it it should force the hood down.
My '15 hood fluttered with the defector installed, adding ¾" x¾" foam weatherstrip to the back edge of the hood stopped the flutter. My '16 Hybrid never has fluttered.
Thanks for the tip, but I'm reluctant to attach anything with adhesive to a vehicle with paint so thin it practically comes off in a stiff breeze. I should invest in a company that makes touch-up paint.
