So I have been researching and trying to find an engine to store and keep for my future as my current one won't last me forever at 200k miles. It would have if I had bought the car new and taken care of it. People normally don't.
Anyway, I found a guy (online store) selling an engine from a 4x2 (3SFE) and he won't sell me his cuz he tells me that it won't work in my 4x4 ...... F*****G seriously?
Keep an eye on those sellers on 'Bay that sell Japanese engines. Most of them are in good shape. In Japan they total cars more freely than here and those sellers stock up well.
I can't imagine they are different unless they didn't get some holes tapped in back of block for the transfer case braces. But people fit 5sfe engines without big dramas. Find another seller willing to take your money.
I still haven't got any info on this yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !!
Again, I am buying only for the future as low mile engines are hard to come by. This is low mile. I want to buy it and store it.
The seller sent me this new message when I inquired again.
I can put/switch these parts over from my current engine. Right?
"" The block may be the same but when our info gives us a "NON_EXACT MATCH" is usually means the oil pan , wire harness , exhaust manifolds and other parts need to be changed over.
Ask him a pic of the right side of the block (facing rear in car). You will see if the holes for the transfer case brackets are present. If we were not living so far one from the other, I would sell you mine from my 98!
but Toyota should have the holes already there if they are being used or not. It will cost the company more money to customize the engines for a 2wd and a 4wd.
engine is inside the vehicle and he isn't sending me no pics. he has no time. LOL.. but it is a low mile engine.
I haven't looked myself but I've been told the mounting holes are absent on the 2 wheel drive 3FSE blocks, it doesn't make sense but then that EGR VSV location doesn't make a lick of sense either.
Looking at RAV4 engines for sale, yes there is a difference.
You could pick up a Beams Redtop 3SGE engine for about the same price or less. It bolts right in, the only mods are the wiring harness, fuel line for a return line (I think), and exhaust header/pipes. Well spelling it out it sounds like more, LOL, but you jump to 210 hp on a naturally aspirated engine!
