Mud flaps

Hey there all. Any idea of the original 1997 4door RAV4 came with mudflaps ? Most of the ones I see on the roads have claddings, so I`m not sure if the mudflpas were removed to accomodate that. I keep having to clean off the mud from the car when it gets rainy here. Thanks.

I know my post is about 6 months old...but to continue......did you install them yourslef ? I just bought mudflaps for the rear. From the posts in the 4.2 & 4.3 sections, it looks like it is easy to install. But the ones there are more of the `clip-on` type. I notice that your rear mudflaps look similiar to what I had bought.

Any suggestion/ tips for self- installation plse ?

No these were on the car when I purchased it (2nd hand) although ALL the 4.1's I have seen in my area have them installed... So I think that maybe the dealers install them??

as for attaching them, they are held on with some PHILLIPS head type plastic screw or clip??

Keep on RAVin.....

There is a possibility they are still available from the dealer... I bought some new ones from the dealer last year, but was only able to use the rears because the fronts flaps I bought weren't shaped to fit with the sidesteps.
I did pick up some other OEM front flaps made to fit with the sidebars, but after trying to install them, realized they didn't come with the right screws... easy fix, but I haven't taken the time to aquire proper screws...

I already bought mine from a local spare parts shop....I just don`t know how to install them properly as whichever way I try to angle it, it doesn`t seem to fit. It`s not an original Toyota mudflap so mebbe that`s the problem. I only bought a pair for the rears.

Just curious...most mudflaps sold in the shops should be able to fit the rear right ? It does look like I gotta do a lil` bit of drilling.

I got the new mudflaps for USD6. The shop wanted to charge me USD15 for installation. Ridiculous so I thot I`d try it meself first. At the moment, the only progress I`ve made is staring at the parts. Heheh.

Are they fairly FLEXIBLE along the mounting edge? if so, I think I may of installed something similar on a previous car... it is quite simple to do... what other parts came with them or is it just 2 mud flaps... You probably should have got some screws in the package too...

Simply drill some holes big enought for the screws to go into... if you dont do this, you will not be able to mount it to the car...

If you still cant picture what I'm on about, spend the extra $15 and get it done by the shop.... will save you a headache or 2...

Keep on RAVin.....

The mudflaps I bought were original toyota and came with all the mounting hardware and bolted up to existing holes...
The rears mounted with no issues and fit snug...

If the part is still available from the dealer, sometimes it's worth paying the extra... 8)
