All kinds of ideas about which are the best all-season tires. I can blow my budget out of the water, but really would prefer not. I need a quiet running tire that performs well and gets good mileage. City driving. Not much snow any more.
HELP! |

I had the same plan. I looked up that size on Tire Rack and came up with Kumho Solus KR-21...cheapest tire they had. I've got about 2,000 miles on mine. In my opinion they are fine. Quiet as a church mouse and nice in the rain.
I'm sure there are better , but on a budjet these are fine............Franklin |

I have a 2000 4.1 4door Rav4 AWD and I bought Firestone Winterforce tires.
They are rated number one for snow tires on Tire Rack. They were $91. each and I have had them for over two years. They are the BEST traction tire I have ever owned. I run them year around (only drive about 5,000 miles a year). They hardly show any wear at all! My tire guy says I will get 2 to 3 more years out of them! Great buy!

Snow tyres should not be used in warm weather. The rubber is that soft that the tyre surface might melt slightly and the wear will increase very dramatically.
If your tyres only can be used 4 years that's not very long. Might want to put on something to prevent mold from happening to your tyres. Greetz Pim

The people on TR love them. In general 90% would buy again. In my size 215 70 16 92% would buy again. That said, there are better winter tires out there. The Winterforce aren't compounded for ice condition and others give bettter snow traction. Nothing wrong with running them year round with only 5,000 miles a year. I did notice a mpg reduction with them on BUT I only use them for winter. |

That said I would consider the Kumho KR-21 when I replace my tires sometime in 2013. |

I have Nokian WR2s on my RAV. Got them last year and they're still in great shape. I had Nokain WRs before that and loved them so when the time came I upgraded to the newer model! They cost about $750 for a set of four mounted and balanced, etc.
Living in Duluth/Minnesota in general, having good tires year-round is important because you never know what kind of whether you're gonna get and when, especially in Duluth on steep hills. So these work out really well and I would highly recommend them. We also are on our second set on our Prius and they work wonders for that car as well. Hope that helps! |
