I just bought my 2000 Rav4 last week. When I got it, it only had one key and no key fob/keyless entry remote. How would I know if I have the factory installed keyless entry system? I found programmable replacement remotes on ebay, but they will do me no good if the car didnt have the receiver installed from the factory.
There is a small antenna looking thing behind the rear view mirror. Is that it? |

Keyless entry usually is located under the central console or at the left side at the rear of the car. Many RAV4 mark 1 don't have it.
Take a picture of your key and the antenna you mentioned and it may be identified by people here. Greetz Pim

That antenna, if it is for the alarm, it is definitely not Toyota's.
You also have non standard keys. This is not a spare key, the key has been replaced with a new one, but also not from Toyota. Dashboard is also not something i recognize from Toyota's options list. That might be stick on foil. So my guess is that a former owner of your RAV4 went berserk with adding lots of after market items. Question remains: what maker and type and how to use it. To answer that, you will have to look under the driver's and passenger's seat, and inside the centre console as well as open up the dashboard to check what's inside. If you find anything, make pictures, so it may get identified. Greetz Pim

The fake woodgrain is the same that is on my friends 2000 Camry. It is just stick down fake wood though, I am not positive that it is "factory" but his is identical.

Josh,
It looks like you do have the alarm system. I have it in my car and there are a couple things that indicate it, one more permanent than the other. The first is a decal on the front side windows for the Toyota VIP Security System. The second is the thing indicated in your second picture. Were the fake woodgrain not there, you would see a panel that says "Toyota Security" (or something to that effect; I can't remember exactly off the top of my head) with the blinking red light in the middle. The light blinks when the system is on to indicate that it's armed. I can post pictures of either of these things later in the week if you like as well as a picture of my remote and possibly a part number. I hope this helps and let me know if I can help you in any other way! Joe |
