You have only hardware there, called an OBD scanner.
Software is always pre-installed on it and it reads the code for you. Likely a manual is included so that you can identify which code is what, or you can find the code number on this site and the accompanying AREA of trouble (because it seldom points to the exact location). With that you can identify what might be wrong. At my profile you will find several links to repair manuals, pictures and more of the RAV4. Greetz Pim
