They bumped her through !!!! and she lives !!!! no damage at all the the valves had a new water pump fitted with the cam belt and cogs etc cost £270 and is running like the little bandit she is !!!, though i am now thinking of not putting my bull bars back on as she looks nice with out them at the minute

Fantastic, with a bit of luck the next guy who dose a search will find this 100% proof that the engine survives a cambelt fail

glad to hear all went well, makes me think i should do mine i,ve had a new belt in the garage for last six months, :-S

after my last comment my bloody cambelt went and snapped (told you i should have done it

) i had the car towed home spent three hours stripping it down cursed lots as i couldnt see the third bolt on the engine mount (eventually sussed out why it wouldn't come off, stupid place to hide one) set timing slid on new belt and did a test start, no probs so put it back together.
so i can say that through experience the 95 Rav4 3SFE engine is without a doubt 100% a none interference engine.

and next time i buy a part it will be fitted straight away

Non interference motors were one of many of Toyota's brilliant design features in the 90's. Even our 3SGTEs were non interference, which is very useful when you lose your water pump and your timing belt snaps. I am sure their modern motors are no longer non interference for some boring corporate reason (like cheaper design) but nothing was designed and built like a 90's Toyota power plant. Or car for that matter. One of many reasons I love my old Toyotas!

Hi,I have just bought my 1999 rav freesport auto in lovely condition,just had new water pump and timing belt fitted so no worries their but just out of curiosity I went to my nearest Toyota agent and asked if it was a non interference engine fitted to that model, The service advisor looked purplexed and said she didnt no what I was talking about,said she didnt no what interference meant, so makes you think!
