Default The 1998 Rav4 has a non-interferance engine !!!!!

Hi guys, im sure this has been asked a 100 times before by other people but i just would love this to be put in stone for me,

i have an S Reg (1998) Rav4 GLX 2ltr Petrol and my cam belt went a week ago. . . .

Is it a non interference or an interference engine . . . . . .

im hearing so many conflicting things and i know you will know right away !!

wicked thanks guys !!!!

im also having the water pump replaced as we seem to think it was that caused the belt to go should be back in business tomorrow

Just curious.... Can you please explain what you mean by interference and non-inteference? I have the feeling it is probably a terminology difference from what I am used to.

It refers to whether or not the pistons contact (that is interfere with, meaning bend ) the valves when the cam stops and the pistons keep going as happens when the timing belt fails.

Thanks, I should have been able to figure that one out considering timing belts were being discussed and I once had to replace bent valves for this very reason.
