I was wondering what the speaker size would be in the front of my 1998 Rav4 5 door. I have looked on the internet but I have received multiple answers. I went to best buy and they said they were four inches, but they definitely dont look like 4 inches. I could be wrong though, and they could be right. Could someone clarify please?

I got this off the Crutchfield site, they've always been accurate for me:

Front speakers
  • Front Door: 6-3/4"

Far Rear speakers
  • Back Panel: 6-1/2" Your factory speaker doesn’t match any aftermarket speaker size exactly. Here, we list the largest speaker that will fit in the factory location. As you shop, we’ll show you all options for this location.

Check this thread: http://www.rav4world.com/forums/94-...2391-front-speaker-replacement-1996-rav4.html

In a nutshell, you can't be sure until you remove the door panel and check for yourself.
I bought 6-1/2 inch speakers and THEN found out that there originally were 4" ones in my Rav (problem rectified by purchasing two cheap adapters and doing minor modifications).
Anyway, for me 6-1/2 inch speakers is the way to go since they perform way better than the smaller ones and are super easy to fit.

Thank you for the link! I looked at the process. My only question is.....how secure are they? It looks like the screws are just holding the very outside. And you said you said you bought adapters...could you please tell me where you bought lose? (Thanks for all your help!)

The generic code for the adapters I bought is "SAK034". You can find a dozen listings in various websites if you search for "toyota rav4 96-00 speaker adapters front".
They are securely mounted since you have to tap the screws of the speakers on the PVC material of the adapter wherever the pre-drilled holes of your speakers dictate you to. Apparently, barovelli had to make that "compromise" because he used the existing speaker adapter and his speaker mounting holes where of the "open-end" design.

I got a set of 6.5" round components to fit in the factory front door panel with a little modding of the housing. Just had to remove the bracket that held the speaker wire to the plastic adapter plate. Hope that helps some of you.
