I picked up a 4.1 AWDthat is in need of a new engine. Indoing research, it seems the FWD will NOT work with the AWD due to a differentin the block/transmission flange. Now, Isee mention of the Camay 5sFe going into a Rav-4, but no one specifies if this isthe AWD, or FWD model, and if the compatibility is a true “;plug and play” ofif some fusion of parts will make it work.
Can anyone shed light on the question-can any other motor “boltinto” an AWD Rav 4 looking to maintain all stock functionality- PS/AC…ect.
I am writing a response to your posting. Although, I realize that you are a first time poster here, you must realize that no one on this forum is paid to post here. If you want to really find out an answer to a question I would ask a mechanic or someone at a Toyota dealership, but it might cost you some money to get the answer. Otherwise, the only thing to do is wait for a response or search previous posts which is what I think you have done.
As for your question, I own both a '99 RAV4 and '99 Camry (Camay?). The outside of both motors look the same. I do not know or have seen the flange you talk about. The RAV4 is 2.0 liters and the Camry is 2.2 liters. There may be other differences also that I don't know about. Finally, I have never seen a AWD Camry, but I could be missing something. Sorry that I can not be more help, maybe other members can enlighten me also.

Yes, rant indeed. Ijust did not realize how dead this forum is.
Yes, I have done my research. The AWD and FWD Rav 4 have a different “bolt patter”to their transmissions. So, a FWD motorwill not bolt to an AWD trans, although both are 3SFE engines.
Your 2000 Camay has a 5SFE. I have seen talk of them bolting into the RAV with little top nomodification, but there was no specifics on if this was FWD or AWD. Logic would dictate that a FWD Rav 4 wouldaccept the FWD Camay motor, but I am not sure.
No, you popping the hood and looking at them without anyactual measurements of the flange will nothelp. But thanks for trying. J
