very loud annoying noise in front of engine bay

My Rav4 has 167k on it and about 2000 miles eariler a noise began sounding in the front of the engine bay. It sounds like wind chimes, but its only occuring when im accererating. It is so loud, that I can't hear my radio, even with all the windows up, and I get wierd looks when stopping and starting. A friend of mine said it sounds like a bolt or nut is loose in the exhaust. Others call me tinkerbells . Any ideas or help to save me from this embarrsing noise, will be greatly thanked.

Is there any way you could get your car/engine running on video and post the video here? Have you gotten under the car and shaken the exhaust or engine? If its too loud its not good. If its a loose bolt on a joint of the exhaust then you should be able to see a black spot in the exhaust where the gasses are leaking.

Im sorry but my computer is too primitive to post audio/video, but shortly after I posted this thread, the sound almost went away. It only happens when I start the thing in the morning, and when the engines cold. I shook the exhust and there is some play (side to side) but all seems normal. When I tap the exahust with a hammer however the tubing resonates the "windchime sound" I plan on replacing the 1 3/4'' tubing with a 2 1/4'' or 2 1/2'' tubing: Cat, muffler, the works. Also, when I bought my Rav4 5 months ago, the first thing I did was go over every nut, bolt, and screw I could find, and made sure they were tight. One of the mechanics at my work place said that its the cat-converter.

Try checking the cat converter heat shield. The bolts holding it down might be loose or missing. That has been a known problem from other members.
