blower fan noise?

When I turn on the fan, I can hear the little noise, after I turn it off, the noise goes away immediately.

Do you hear the noise? is it normal?

I am thinking about cleaning up the fan, maybe add some lubracation oil to the bearing (if there is a bearing), or even replace the fan, not sure if my 12V DC cooling fan from a bad plasma TV would work.

did anyone clean/oil the fan before? where is it located (under passenger dash board)? how to get to it? how many screws holding the dash and fan?

I am also thinking about cleaning the whole cabin air way - I can image the air pipes are dirty, and replace air filter to get better cabin air.

any thoughts are welcome,

thanks,

Its a big blower, not a fan.
Its located behind the glove box.

I dont think the rav has a filter for the cabin air.

Its a good idea to remove the blower and clean and lube it, and any ducts you can get at, plus heater core and evaporator coil, and clear the drains.

I hear buzzing noise when I turn on the fan on right side of dashboard. Sounds like it could be blower or fan. I don't know much about it. Can anyone explain how to remove and clean the blower/fan?

I've been meaning to do this for years. Our has always made a nasty noise. Also, there is no factory cabin air filter, but a couple of people have rigged them. I think there was a writeup in the Australian forum, Rav4oz: http://rav4oz.compact4wd.com/forum/

Its not unusual for something to get stuck in the blower (leaves, loose foam) and make noise.

That could be. It sounds as though a fan blade is hitting something on every rotation. That's what I'm hoping. Of course I have to get up off the couch and get to it.

noise

It's a high pitched metal or rotor grinding sound. maybe the rotor on the fan needs replacement. Anyone know how to get to it under the dashboard? Does the dashboard need to come out?

I read my Haynes a while back with the intent of taking it out, but didn't get that far. As I recall, you just take off the glove box, which is very easy to do. It's behind it. If you need more details, I can check the manual when I get home tonight.

Hi. I just fixed this problem today. The blower was working fine except for this buzzing noise. The pitch would go higher if I increase the fan speed. It was annoying, and I didn't hear this before. It turned out to be some stuck twigs and needles in the blowder blades. After clearing the blades out, the blower ran smoothly.

Here's what I did. I read through the previous replies. On my 97 Rav4, there are three brass screws underneath the blower (black round plastic body about the size of your hand) holding it to the white housing. First remove the glove box (by bending the ends and unscrewing it). Unplug the black power wire under the blower and the green cable connecting to cruise control. Unscrew the three brass screws. The blower will fall out, but it will be blocked by the plastic frame of the glove box. Remove the two plastic covers along the right side. Remove the two metal screws of the plastic frame so that you can flex it out to get the blower out.

Clean and do the reverse. It was that simple.
