Sorry to hear that. Don't give up or get discouraged. Mine has 247,000 miles and it still runs VERY strong and reliable.

Welcome to the forum, this is what we're hear for

First: Check the battery terminals. Make sure posts are clean and terminals are tight.

Second: Make sure when you put the key in the Run position before starting the engine you hear a light buzz from under the car for about 1 or 2 seconds. That's the fuel pump priming. If it ever DOES NOT do that, then the pump is kicking the bucket. Replacing it is very simple.

Third: Make sure spark plug wires are well attached and pushed in.

I would start by checking those three things. Those would be the most basic and important to getting the engine starting properly.

Welcome to the forum. If you don't have the tools or the know how. Get a scanner from your local Pep Boy and plug it into your RAV4. Here you can get all the information you'll need regarding this procedure.

Once you know the code, look it up on the net. Scanners also bring a booklet or a CD ROM with the information you will need. Once you know the code, your home free. It will pin point the problem.

BTW, doing what 2001SL2 says IS a very good alternative. The man knows his stuff.

a p0141 will not cause a no start. The first things you should look for with a no start is Fuel, Spark, and Compression

Fuel?
Spark?
Compression. it ran before, did the temperature change drastically? I would say leave it till last. I think it is more a spark or fuel problem.

Looking at the p0141 electrical circuit the heater and the fuel pump share the same power source point coming off the EFI relay...

I would check to see if the pump is getting power as step one.

Sorry to hear the dealership sold you a car with "baggage." Once you get this issue (and possibly the O2 sensor) fixed, it should be a very reliable little car.

My 2 cents,
This reeks of fuel pump failure. As 2001SL stated, listen for the hum of the fuel pump. It won't be loud, but it's the only thing making noise back there. Either stick your head next to the rear tire, or press your ear on the trunk's carpet.

If this is the issue, be sure to install a new fuel filter too. Preventative maintenance.

If fuel pump is working, look towards the ignition system. Could be a grounding spark plug wire, or failing ignitor (coil). Most shops can diagnose this using a multimeter or intentionally short-circuiting each wire.

Fuel pump should get power when car is "ON" and during "START". Voltmeter should show 12V if the car is "ON"

If it's not, check fuses. That's way easier than replacing the pump.
