I recently purchased a used 2005 Rav4 from a very reliable owner. The car has not very many miles ~39,500. I am at about 3500 miles from my last oil change and when I look at the manual there are about 15 things listed I should do at 40,000 miles. Are these all things that are done during a normal oil change or is there something special I should ask them to do?
Thanks!!!! This is the list: Back to Service Schedule Service due at 40,000 Miles Action: Description Change fluid Crankcase Inspect Axle Shaft Oil Seal Rotate Wheels & tires Inspect Constant Velocity Joint Boots Inspect Suspension Inspect Ball joints Replace Crankcase Oil Filter Inspect Steering linkage Inspect Air filter element Torque Body Fasteners Torque Frame Fasteners Inspect Brake Friction Material Lubricate Driveshaft Universal Joint(s) |

Mine is a 2003, although the 2005 has an updated engine, I doubt it is different, if anything, the schedule should be longer
the maintenance schedule can be a little confusing, do you pull a trailer, drive off road, or short frequent trips? if not, you are on a 7,500 mile schedule, not 5,000 so maintenance should have been done at 37,500 miles and next at 45,000 miles besides, those items you list are inspections, not replace |

Just use it for short trips. Normal driving I would say - commute to work and then then occasional 100-200 mile trip.
By 7,500 mile schedule what does that mean I should have done every 7,500? Oil changes should still be more frequent? |

Typically if you take it to a dealer, you can have them inspect the areas for you if the car is up in the air for an oil change or whatever. You really shouldn't need much of anything replaced at this point. I don't think Toyota starts recommending replacing things like spark plugs, etc until the 60k mark.
I'm a 2003 with 5k mile oil changes.

no, they have 2 schedules, one is for normal service (7,500 miles) and the other for severe service (5,000 miles) according to Toyota: severe service= towing a trailer, short trips of 5 miles or less in cold weather, driving on unpaved roads the oil should be changed, filter replaced, and tires rotated every 7,500 miles the air conditioner filter should be replaced every 22,500 miles the air filter should be changed every 30,000 miles replace the coolant at 60,000 miles the spark plugs at 120,000 miles if you have AWD/4WD there are additional things the things you originally listed should be checked |
