Unhappy Acceleration lag on my 2001 rav4 4wd

I have 2001 toyota rav4 recently bought.

Im facing an issue - at times my rav4 looses acceleration and decelerates no matter how hard i press the accelerator (shows > 3000 rpm and increasing, but still decelerates to around ~40 MPH from ~65 MPH). After a few minutes it starts to respond to the press on the gas pedal. Looks like its hesitating to change gears.

This is posing a real danger on the highways :-(

i want experts opinion, so turned up to the rav4world forum. Please help!!

Register your car on toyota.com/owners

Check to see if you've had dealer maintenance performed in relation to the ECM. There are known TSBs for the transmission and related issues

Thank you! Registered with toyota.com/owners and checked maintenance records. I didn't find any maintenance done with regard to ECM. looks like after 80k miles my rav4 has been serviced outside the authorised toyota service centers. Im not seeing any records after 80k miles.

Planning to take it to authorised service center in about 1k mile for oil change and regular service. Will enquire with them then!

thanks again!!
