I realized my fluids were a bit low when I was checking out the headlights under the hood. My 2004 RAV4 is a Standard Transmission.
Do you folks know what Transmission fluid I need? Next, what Engine coolant fluid do you recommend? That's also a bit low. Thanks. I couldn't see the info readily in the PDF Manual. |

So I went to Lordco auto parts for my 2004 RAV4 4WD 4-DOOR 5M, to get some transmission fluid and engine coolant.
What they gave based on their info was: Pentefrost SF coolant, which I was advised to mix with water. And Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle Automatic transmission fluid. My vehicle is a standard, does Automatic transmission still work with it? How does this sound? I'm pretty clueless. |

Hi Bondy Id just go to a toyota dealer and get genuine fluids there isnt much difference in price and the auto seems delicate on what oils it uses from the threads i have read. Im from the stick with exact same oils school of thought.
But if you do a transmission oil forum search you will get alot of info your hemisphere specific on alternative oils guys have used and are happy with good luck |

My Toyota dealer when changing my oil will check and top off all of my fluids. As mentioned before, try your local dealer. At least you'll get the correct fluids and not something that could potentially garbage up your system.

Thanks I was just starting arrive at the same conclusions. Suprising how the Lordco set me up with this stuff that was necessarily what I needed.
Hmm...that was a learning lesson. I think I will also stick with my recommended products from the dealership. Originally I had thought these things were fairly generic. But I'm not willing to chance anything on my sweet RAV. If anything I want to enhance this vehicle and make it more awesome. I've been thinking about some windsurf board roof racks. Anyways, off to the dealership I go. Thanks again. |
