I just went to Mr. Lube for an oil change and they said that they checked the trans fluid and it's black and needs to be changed ASAP, along with the rear diff and coolant. It sounds like BS as I was just at the dealer for a clutch and catalytic converter less than 5000 miles ago. I can't figure out how to check the manual trans fluid though? I called and they said they did it from under with a "check" plug. I've tried googling it and can't find any info on that anywhere.
Any ideas on how to check manual trans fluid? Thank you!
i havent seen 2001 rav4 yet, but if your engine doesnt have a dip stick for tranny fluid, you may have to lift the vehicle to access the fill plug, when found, open it up and just check it by inserting your finger, you will know the oil is black and probably low.
you may probably notice that they access that fill plug (not so hard to access it if they use a hoist or a pit).
your dealer just did the clutch brake fluid and cat. but not your diff and tranny, sounds legit to me. check your dealer's worksheet comments and items that they really did. usually, if you have it maintained last visit at the dealer, they will tell you the conditions of your fluids.
when you visit a shop or even a dealer, what you told them is what they will do on your car. remember you only get what you paid for.
UNLESS
that technician who did your car gave the time to check your fluids, well, most techs do check! thats part of the maintenance (if you were IN for maintenance). VISUAL CHECKS!
Hi downhillrider, what was the dealership clutch repair price and what was the breakdown of labor and parts. Was the flywheel replaced and were any other associated parts replaced? Thanks.
