Hi there, I've been experiencing a loud hum which I thought was coming from the front of my 2004 rav4 and I assumed it was a wheel bearing.
I took it to a garage and was informed that it was a bearing in my rear differential and was referred to a specialist, when i called the specialist
the ask for a quote he told me that he would have to drop the transmission and split it because its all tied in with the rear differential and encased
together and quoted me $1500. Which i can't understand why he would have to drop the transmission and split it to change the rear differential bearings
and i feel like he's trying to take advantage of me. I've done some research on the matter and found that it should only cost $800 including labor to have
this done, and haven't found anything saying the transmission needs to be dropped and split. So here I am asking for anyone's advice on this situation.
Thanks in advance!
