Oil Pressure Light Question

Hi there.

I have a 2004 Rav4 2.0 GTI automatic that had a new engine about 20,000 miles ago after the last one blew up!

I was driving last week on a delivery for about 3 and a half hours (2 hours to destination then a ten minute break with the engine off and then for another hour and a half) when my oil light started to flicker but did not come on fully. I pulled over and checked the oil and that was all ok and let the engine cool down for a while before driving the last half hour of the journey. The light did not come on during this period and has not done since then (have used it over the weekend on quite a few occasions but not on any long journeys, say max 15 mins to any destination) and its running fine

Has anyone had this problem and should I take it to the garage to get the oil pressure checked?

Definitely get the pressure and the sensor checked. The sensor may be dirty. The light comes on at very, very low pressure. If the sensor is bad, it is an easy fix and no harm done. If the oil pump pickup screen is clogged, that's really bad.

What were the circumstances under which the old engine blew up? You don't need a repeat performance!

Garage
Check the wiring to the oil pressure sensor. Make sure the connector is seated firmly and not corroded. Also check the wires to make sure the insulation is intact and not rubbing on any metal.
