So lately here in australia its been raining. A LOT. My poor rav has been out in the rain for the entirety of it. It did go through some small flooding, but nothing over 20cm high. Everything was working until i parked it last night. Today i went to start it and discovered a few things.
1. My radio was shorting out somewhere. It would turn on but the sound was patchy, like a bad connection. Im assuming water somewhere. Upon turning upon trying to start it, the radio would turn off. I attribute this to the fact my battery was dead. Wouldnt even turn over. A quick push start later, the engine was running, and the stereo hasnt missed a beat since. Not sure if its dried out or maybe there just wasnt enough power to run it. 2. There was a puddle of water on my passenger seat floor. I think it has run down the cables which run to my driving lights as there was a few drops still sitting on it. Ill have to attack it with silicone when its dry. 3. Thought i was out of the woods. Everythings working, slowly drying out. Took it for a run to charge up the battery and check the post. Noticed the speedometer and hence the odometer isnt working. This obviously isnt good and probably illegal... Also, after driving it, the check engine light was on. It isnt on however when i start the car, just after driving for a bit. I checked all the related fuses, nothing. Looked online and was told it could be a problem with the connection to the gearbox or something? Could someone help me out with a picture of what connection that is, or maybe how to fix it? Kind of need it fixed by next weekend as im driving 6 hours to go away for the week. Blasted water.. At a short 1. Rained lots 2. water got into cabin 3. stereo was patchy 4. Battery dead 5. speedo isnt working. Thanks for any help guys. Im at a loss. |

I had this happen to me involving rain. The engine would cut and stutter then run ok following which the speedo and odometer died. When it dried out normal services resumed until more rain (usually only heavy stuff). I think eventually I took ito the dealer and they (re)sealed the screen and that cured it. Water was running down a cable into a connector though not sure which side - perhaps the driver's side though Australia is RHD so a very similar loom position I guess.

Hmm, my engine is running perfectly as always, just no speedometer. I suspect theres water in the connection to the gearbox. I will try and find it before work tomorrow, else ill be driving with my gps on for speed. But it does need fixing, although this will help keep my KM down :D

Update 2. Pulled up the carpet and took out the underlay. About 3 liters of water drained out of it and now its all hanging up to dry. Car is already smelling like wet dog..

Update 3! Car smells horrible. Speedo now works all the time! Have an industrial fan aimed at the wet area to dry it off. Leaving it over night!
