Welcome Phil & good job RAVMAN!!!

Change can be good if the content & participation are not lost.

What I hope for is a continuation of active non-flaming participants, focused Rav4-content, and pages that still load quickly.

My fear is that that the new format will have so much advertisement that the pages take longer to load. Many forum sites seem to morph into on-line advertisements with reduced space for the actual forum content. Just voicing a concern, and I hope this will not be the case.

Ads keep the lights on, if you are visiting a forum and not a member 90% of the time you will see a lot of ads. The reason for this is visitors do not contribute anything to the forum and cost you bandwidth. Members generally post and contribute and to keep them active on a forum you don't want to serve them with more ads then content.

In response to needing to get a rav4, I do community management on a lot of forums, this would require me to own a lot of cars, motorcycles, tractors and even a combine. since I admin on some farming type community sites as well. I live in a big city in a small apartment, I will have to live vicariously through everyone on here.

I am here for all the technical stuff so if the site starts to load slow let me know.

If you think the new fancy dash boards with GPS and blue tooth in new cars and trucks are cool you need to see the cockpit of one of these combines! They are like a fighter jet and a home office some of them.

vBulletin is the plan. It will not be vB4 in case anyone was wondering. vB is a powerful program and vB4 is new and shiny and great but still full of problems. A big site does not do well with vB4. anything after 3.8 is still very secure and very easy to use. I built a forum for a friend recently to learn vB4 and it was not easy to figure out even with it being a small site.

The redesigns and upgrades take a little while to implement so as long as we have everyone on board for an upgrade it will be painless. The only drawback is waiting while all the stuff behind the curtains to make the transition secure and correct is done and that's what takes a little time.

Phil, it's great news that you believe R4W is worthwhile to pick up and support. I've been here about a year and there's a wealth of knowledge that you just can't find anywhere else, along with lots of people willing to share. I hope it works out well for the Rav community and for you.

Many thanks to Kelly for having run this site all these years!

Ravman,

I'm glad you are staying aboard. Phil and his folks also bought Drive Accord where I have been a member for a number of years. There the owner sold the whole gorilla and no longer participates, I'm glad to see that is not the case here. I can certainly live with advertising to keep the doors open just as on Drive Accord so no complaints from me at all.

I strongly feel that some changes should be made to the classifieds section which I have mentioned before. There needs to be some established rules for posting such as minimum post requirements and a standard format to post items for sale along with pictures, information, shipping, etc. Also why does it need to be RAV4 specific? We all have other interests as well. What would be wrong with posting a radar detector or a camera one doesn't need/want anymore for instance. Just my two cents worth.

Phil,

Good folks here and no drama like the Accord forum had when you folks took it over. I look forward to the site stability needed here and any improvements.

Drive accord is a good community with very good staff. A lot of the stuff you sugested will be easy to do in vB. phpBB is not my native program so I would not know how to do this.
