Hi there!
I just bought my first RAV4, a third generation (2006) D-4D 2.2 litre diesel with manual gearbox. Previously I had a Subaru Impreza (1998) and before that a Mitsubishi Pajero long chassis turbodiesel 2.0l. So I have mostly preferred Japanese cars with 4WD.
Why Toyota, why RAV4? Here in Finland Toyota is very popular, easy to get spare parts. And Toyota has a reputation of long life. Important things for me who tends to use the cars till the end and only by used cars.
In this country (we have winter here!) I don't want to go back to 2WD. And occasionally I must be able to tow a horse trailer. What I need is an economical car capable to tow 2000 kg, and I believe I have one in RAV4.
Why do I prefer used cars? The car-related taxation is rather high here and it just doesn't make sense to me to invest some 50.000€ to a car. And being somewhat capable to understand the technology and make some maintenance and repair work by myself, a used car may not be the silliest thing. Unfortunately cars made at this century allow for less repairing by the owner compared to older cars.
Cheers,
Tapio
