Assuming that the volume measure used in the chart is the same for all it's still interesting that you folks in Canada pay much more for gasoline than we do in the U.S. even though much of our petroleum is imported from Canada . . .

So you found a good reason to move to Venezuela right? 0.06 dollarcent per GALLON.
And in the Netherlands we pay for normal fuel (Euro 95 octane) 9 dollar per gallon.

I think i am going to start a trading company for oil from Venezuela

And you would expect every peruvian to go with large haulers of oil to their neighboor when prices are over 5.50 dollar difference per gallon right?

We pay more for everything than you guys.... and plenty of it is taxes too.
Even when the likes of target and walmart show up, the prices are still higher this side of the border.

I think part of that is that the sales tax is incorporated into your display prices but in the US, sales tax is added at the checkout counter. I understand that is only a part of the differential.

The cost of living in the USA is lower than anyplace in the world, gas prices might be lower in some other nations but the cost of everything else is more than double. I've lived in many countries and I can say without a doubt that there's no place like home, the USA:D

I don't know about other provinces, but in Ontario, sales tax(es) are added at the counter too. There was a tax in the product at one point, but it was moved out to the counter to be more transparent.

In the diagram, Norway has the highest priced country, although it is itself oil producing country. All fuels are highly taxed in Europe.
European union legislation, directives enhance countries to lower the emissions/usage of fuels, fuel taxing is one way to it. Norway is not European Union country but follows the trend.
Last two years the effects has been seen in my country, by statistics, sales of small cars are increasing (Toyota Yaris size, engines smaller than 1,5 litres).
2012 most sold car models in Finland (Rav4 is 68th)

In Finland right now average price for gasoline 95 (95RON, 85MON) is now 9,36 Usd per gallon (1.603*4,405*1,326) and for gasoline 98 (98RON,89MON) 9,60 Usd (1.643)

Yep, that's true pretty much nation-wide, taxes are added at the counter. Usually the only exceptions are entry fees to parks, museums, that kind of thing that post tax-in prices.

Gasoline is the biggest exceptions here, as well as those you list. Vending machines too... but I expect that would apply everywhere.

Restaurants are the worst in that they usually have a higher tax rate than most items and much higher than un-prepared food.
