Does anyone know if there are videos out there on switching the stock 96/97 headlights with aftermarket 98-00 headlights? I've been searching, and haven't found a thing.
What did you hear about them? The only thing I've heard about aftermarket headlights is that the seal isn't as well made, but I'll use cork or some kind of sealant to ensure the seal is strong.
I dont know if there is any videos unfortunately, but i would recommend just going to your local junkyard and comparing the 2 styles. In regards to what slimjim16v said he is incorrect the 98-00 headlight are brighter. I have a 98 and my friend has a 96 we have compared the 2 with the same type of bulbs and mine were much brighter. both headlights were stock and did not have any type of defects yet. As in 1998 when Toyota did the refresh, the entire point of the new headlight were not only for looks but also brightness. I have seen people change the headlight but along with the front bumpers I dont know if thats a necessity because I myself never tried. Please let me how it works out for you if you happen to make this modification.
It definitely is not a necessity, just a fun mod to make my headlights clear. I will totally let you know how it goes! I'm going need some help from my friend, because I know nothing of electrical work lol.
Honestly there is not electrical work to do. The only thing electric you work with is the bulbs themselves. swapping the headlight is just screws and bolts thats it. I've done many of headlight changes myself and unless your working with HID or integrated ballast in the housing you wont need to worry about any electrical work. Im sure your situation will be just figuring out if theres any modification you may need to do to see if the headlight fits and lines up, other than that everything else is plug and play.
Well, from what I've looked up, there is a difference between the 2 sets of headlights. After 1997, Toyota used a dual bulb socket headlight, whereas the 96/97 headlight has 1 bulb socket. There's some kind of part that I need that I saw in another thread, I'm hoping it's not too complicated.
