2009 RAV4 V6, won't start - help

Hi,

I was out with my family yesterday and in a stripmall, when we came back, the rave won't start. There was an auto zone across the street, so I went and got a duralast jumpstarter. I followed the direction and waited 5 minutes, the dash lights came up when when I try to start the engine won't even crank.

and the lights on the dash go dim, I think I need to replace a battery, but just wanted to make sure that it's nothing else.

Oh I also tried the making the shifter to N and back and forth in P, but it won't crank at all.

Any suggestions.

I think the jump start doesn't have enough juice to get the V6 going, try a new battery.

had the same problem with my 2012 the other night. tried jumping it for about 20 minutes, finally gave up, called for a tow and a taxi.while I was waiting I kept trying and it started normally as if nothing at all was wrong. no problems since. sure would feel better if I knew what happened.

just checked my post in mechanical. there some friendly people here willing to help us. try holding the smart key right next to the start button until the green light on the button itself comes on, then push it. I don't know if that was the problem with mine, but ill certainly try this if it happens again.

It's very likely new battery time. The reason the new jumpstarter didn't work is it wasn't fully charged as confirmed by the dim dash lights. They usually need overnight charging before use.

I'm voting for a bad battery also

I've seen bad batteries suck every electron out of the donor battery so when a jump doesn't start the car, assumptions are made as to what is the problem, and parts replaced needlessly.

Also, how strong is the jump box?

Mine : 2009 Avalon XL Magnetic Gray Metallic
Hers : 2010 RAV4 Base 2.5 AWD Pacific Blue Metallic

If I have helped, please hit the thanks button.

When the battery is totally flat I've had to jump prior cars with both negative clamps on the negative terminals rather than a ground point. Course, small risk of explosion with that.

Had a no start occur today. Very odd & random. 2012 Limited. No issues at all. Parked on Saturday after shopping. Today, push button, a click, nothing. Checked battery, starter, lights, etc. Figured if it's a computer glitch, I'll disconnect the battery like any other to reboot. Hooked up battery after 1 minute, vroom. No problem since. Maybe this can help others.

Forgot to mention, checked all fuses first, inside car & under hood. Also tried the other smart key. Figure the immobilizer ecm got hung up between signals& locked out the circuit.
