Does rear window open *SEPARATELY* from rear door?

I'm thinking of buying a car & am looking at cars that aren't too expensive & get very good gas mileage which have cargobeds in which you could hang stuff out the back window if needed (like a stationwagon).

I hate it when the rear windows can't open separately from the rear door because then if you want to haul something big out the back, you have to keep the actual door open & rope it down so it doesn't bang against the object with every bump in the road.

I've ruled out the ScionXA, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, & Nissan Versa because the rear window doesn't open.

1) Does anyone know about the Toyota RAV4 rear window ??

Thanks,

The back glass on the 3rd generation Rav4 does'nt open... I'm trying to think of models on which it does, and the only thing that comes to mind is the previous generation Santa Fe...

Thanks!

By "previous generation", do you mean that *current* Sante Fe's do not have this feature (& only old models have it) ?

Hmmm. I just did a google search for "rear window that opens" and "suv" and found that the Ford Escape & Mazda Tribute have that feature. However, the Tribute is expensive....

edited to say I just looked at the Escape price...that's expensive too!

The new Santa Fe doesn't have the opening rear window anymore, but the Hyundai Tucson (Hyundai's smaller SUV) does. On the car side, the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe has the opening rear window as well.

Thanks ...I'm going to check out the Matrix & Vibe !!

I did some searching & found another inexpensive car (like the Tucson)....the Kia Sportage has a rear window that opens separately.

This is the last year for the Matrix and Vibe.
Tell the salesman and try to get a bigger discount because it's the last year.
Tell him that will hurt resale value.

4-Runners open separately. I'm thinking the Highlander might as well. CRV does.

Cars, snowboarding, house modding.
