Anti-Theft Engine Immobilizer - not factory installed

Anti-Theft Engine Immobilizer

I purchased 08 RAV4 Base V4 4WD day before yesterday. It does not have Anti-Theft Engine Immobilizer pre-installed. Is this something that can be installed by dealer?

or, are there good after-market options available?

p.s. I am also planning to get remote start and toyota security system installed.

The Anti-Theft Engine Immobilizer is an option that has to be chosen when ordering a base or sport RAV4. They come stock on the Limiteds. After 2006 Toyota gave buyers the ability to order the Immobilizer on the base and sport models. If you purchase a new or used base or sport model off of the lot and it doesn't already have the Immobilizer then you're out of luck as they're very costly to retrofit. They're very cheap to order though but are integrated with the computer.

Since you plan on having the Toyota security system installed, and don't look to be in the Gulf States Region, i'm assuming it'll be the VIP RS3200+ alarm system. If that's the case then it's a moot point anyway as the Immobilizer is disabled upon installation of the RS3200+ which has a starter disable function.

Also, most remote starts take the head of an immobilizer key and embed it somewhere near the ignition, effectively bypassing the immobilizer security.

So, it wouldn't pay to get it, if you could.

thank you :-)

Thank you for both replies. You saved me a lot of hassel and money getting Engine immobilizer only to get it removed for remote start & security system.
