So I'm coming up on this major service interval. I phoned the Toyota dealer where I bought the car. The guy says, "Oh, you'll need spark plugs, air filter, check this and that, and I don't think it has a cabin air filter so you don't need that. We have a fixed price: $599.00." So I replied with a little humor, "This doesn't include stuff I don't need, like lubing the muffler bearings, does it?" He was not humored.
First, the vehicle does have a cabin air filter. I called back and talked to the parts guy who ran the VIN just to be sure. Second, I don't think $599 to install a few filters and 6 spark plugs and torque this and that is a "good deal." The car is out of waranty, I don't plan to trade it in, but run it into the ground, so I don't care about a "good service record" anyway. And they're not going to give much of a trade for a high-mileage vehicle. So, what do you think? Should buy the "package service" and make the dealer really happy? Or get down to business and have them or some other service center price out specific stuff I want serviced? Suggestions appreciated! |

At 90k, you need:
* Oil/filter change * Replace engine air filter * Replace cabin air filter * Inspect a bunch of stuff http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com...2007&int_id=18 Spark plugs don't need replacement until 120k. |

Yes, bmay is correct, you have iridium spark plugs that are good for 120,000 miles (192,000km). I suggest you find another dealer. FAST!!

Stay away from the dealer if it not under warranty. They are rapists! Just go to a shop that you feel comfortable with and they will do the service for as little as half the price.

I am nearing 90K on my RAV4 and I just scheduled the service. Now I guess I will call them back to see what they do and how much they are planning to charge.
