Passenger side airbag on/off?

Hello,
I recently purchased a 2010 base model Rav4.
Is there a switch to turn on/off the passenger side airbag or, I thought I read in this forum that its weight sensing to determine force of airbag in a crash.
Thanks

It's weight sensing.

yes,
but can the airbag be manually turned off with someone sitting in the seat?
My 12 year old son would like to sit in the front for short drives in the neighborhood but I'm not going to chance it with the airbag at full force.

The airbag won't go off full force; it's weight-sensing.

I would love to do the opposite, in other words keep the airbag on as mine doesn't seem to recognize a 150# plus passenger except occasionally when it feels like it. the wiring is rather complicated or i might just futz with it. a new sensor from dorman didn't fix the problem, it seems to be in the wiring.

In my Rav 4 I can turn my passenger side airbag off. It is for installing a child seat in the front passenger seat. I have a 2008 European Rav. I'm sure you can order the key switch. The wiring should be installed. I'm not definite though.

The USA is not so kind. One way to defeat the airbag is to attach the child-seat so it barely touches the seat bottom.

I believe child seats belong in the back. Always.
