Where is the Bluetooth microphone?

The Bluetooth in my '07 RAV4 doesn't understand me very well. Does anybody know where the microphone is located? Should I be talking into it looking straight ahead, talking to the steering wheel, or what?

I believe it is in the overhead console between the two map lights. It's behind the 3 slot grill... I think.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

As an addendum, all recent models have the the 3-slot grill, but models without bluetooth systems will have a matching color plate behind the grill. i.e. no factory installed microphone.

I have an '07 as well, and I have to say…..the BT voice recognition in these vehicles is pretty lame. I'm not sure if the newer models are any better, but mine has been frustrating me for the last 4 years.

In comparison, my wife's 2010 Nissan Versa has an incredible BT system….the voice recognition and controls are fantastic!

The mic in the RAV is up next to the dome lights as previously mentioned. My wife has a fairly high pitched voice, and I notice that it doesn't work well for her no matter what we do. As long as you speak clearly and project your voice towards the roofline it works fairly well.

The RAV4 has terrible voice recognition. I stopped using it months ago, and prefer to use the system in my Garmin GPS.

The Garmin also gives me access to the phone-book in my phone. I'm not forced into creating a new one like in the RAV4.

FWIW I did notice the RAV4 had better voice recognition when I spoke in a normal voice, rather than deliberately pausing between each number and making an effort to over pronunciate each word.
