Key Fob: Unlock All Doors

I did a bit of searching throughout this forum, but I didn't have any successful results.

I have a 2010 RAV4 Limited with the Smart Key system (push to start).

How can I change my keyless entry fob to unlock all of the doors when I mash the unlock button once instead of having to mash it twice?

Also, for some reason, when I grab any of the door handles to unlock the vehicle, the vehicle doesn't unlock. I do have the key fob thing in my pocket, so it's not a matter of distance in the fob and the car.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance!

somewhere on the forum is a proceedure sheet that list this and several other things the dealer can set up, sorry i dont remember the other items. do a search how to reprogram the FOB, or something like that.

the Rav4 is not equiped with auto door locks, like say a prius, therefore you have to use the unlock button on the FOB or insert the key in the keyslot in the drivers door to unlock.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance![/QUOTE]

You can take it to the dealer and they can change the parameters for you. If the doors aren't unlocking when you grab them, then you need to take it to the dealer anyway--they should unlock automatically unless those parameters have been changed by a previous owner. The parameters that can be changed are listed in your owner's manual under section 6-2 (Customization). Here are the parameters for the 2006-2008 models:

You have obviously never looked at a 2009-2011 Limited, which does indeed have the Smart Key system with push button start and auto door locks.

Thanks to all of you for the replies! I really appreciate each of you taking the time to reply.

I will have to schedule an appointment with the local Toyota dealer, I suppose.

I did read the owner's manual and there is some information regarding unlocking all doors on page 30. Not exactly sure what the information means...

Thanks again.

On Page 491, Customizable Features, Unlocking Operation, Default Setting is "Driver's door is unlocked in one step, all doors unlocked in two steps", Customized Setting is "All doors unlocked in one step" Pretty clear that this is exactly what you're looking to do.

The customization is apparently a flat fee by the dealer, for one or more setting changes. So your best bet would be to browse the list of customizable features and pick all that you want to modify at one time.

As for the doors not unlocking when you grab the handle, that definitely needs the dealer's attention.

Smile Update!

Just wanted to give everyone here an update just in case this problem affects someone in the future..

I took my RAV4 to my local Toyota dealer yesterday. I told the service professional that I needed to get my key fob to unlock all of the doors (instead of just the driver's door) AND I needed to enable the door handles (where I could walk up to a door handle and grab it to unlock)

Turns out that there was an extra key fob down in the emergency brake area where no one could see. The key was preventing the car from unlocking when I would grab the door, etc.

The dealer didn't charge me anything. I was incredibly pleased.

Now that's an unusual situation. I wonder how the service tech was able to figure that out. Amazing.
