no--if i added 56 or 10 or 30 or any number, i would drive 330km and say my tank- almost full tank- is giving me 330 kms. and i would divide it by 56.

You're doing it wrong - that's why you don't know what your fuel economy is. Re-read this thread and the several posts from several people who have told you how to correctly calculate your fuel economy.

The AC is active when the vent in Defrost or Defrost/feet position, even though the AC light is not lit. It really sucks gas especially at city speed. Avoid using either 'Defrost' positions unless the interior is fogging up from excessive moisture and obscuring your vision. Do not use the 'Recirculate' function either because it will not vent excessive moisture outside.

Jackrabbit starts and speed over 110Km/Hr (70 mph) also eat up gas pretty quick. Yeah I know, nobody goes less than 120 on the 400-series highways. All part of the metro life, I'm afraid ;-D

Winter gas doesn't help. Your full-tank distance should increase a bit after March or April when pumps switch over to summer gas formulation.

According to EPA, your RAV4 averages 10.2 (manual 2WD) to 11.2 L/100Km (auto 4WD). For TO driving, I would suspect 11-12L/100Km is the norm for warm weather and 13-15L/100Km for cold weather driving. Click on below link to see the actual EPA figures.

Compare Side-by-Side

As other have said, do a couple of actual fuel quantity to actual distance traveled calculation to get an accurate reading. This way you can prove to the repairer or yourself that you may or may not have a problem.

If you cut back on the Defrost & frequent higher speed uses, I think you will see it's pretty close to the norm. Do a couple of the calculated fuel economy measurement and keep us up on your results?

You can do or try anything you want but if either the size of the tank or what the fuel gauge reads enters into your mileage "calculation," it'll NEVER be right!

DUDE... EVEN WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE IS ON "E" THERE'S STILL LIKE TWO GALLONS OF GAS LEFT IN THE CAR. THAT'S YOUR "MISSING" RANGE RIGHT THERE

My commute has changed... went from 27mpg to 25 or worse. Have to remember to keep the defroster off unless I need it...
