They just converted one or two stations to Sunoco near where my gf lives. First I'd seen of them in many years.

I just poured the last of the lawnmower and 2 stroke mix into the RAV's gas tank
??? I hope the gas wasn't already mixed with oil

Remember the fancy pumps and when you could blend your own gas, and dial-in the octane you wanted?

Ah yes, I remember my Olds 442 days, pulling up for Sunoco 260! It was expensive stuff, probably 50 cents a gallon!

Of course it was. Two gallons of gas with two stroke oil in it won't hurt anything nor would a ten gallon mix for that matter. Many on Bobistheoilguy add two stroke oil to each tank for some unknown/unproven benefit that only they can allegedly see.

Had to grind my mind on that one a bit but yes.....I do remember that. Seems like there was some kind of sight glass where you could see the fuel as it was being pumped also.

I thought I'd resurrect this old thread to bring it up to date. As of Jan. 2015 Valero received Top Tier fuel status. I waited several months for all the stations to get the "new" fuel and for the Top Tier signs to be posted on the pumps. I filled up at a busy Valero station yesterday with the Top Tier juice (87 octane) so we'll see how it goes for a few tanks. The cost difference between Valero and Exxon was considerable so I gave it a shot.

All the pumps at this particular station were brand new and redesigned. Not that a gas pump is difficult to use but the new design is a refreshing change and the numbers are visible even in direct sunlight where most others fade out. I wish my cell phone would look that good in direct sunlight

If it performs well then I'll stick with it. If not, it's back to Exxon regardless of the price.

Whenever I go to Ogsdenburg, NY, I avoided the Valero station near my destination precisely because of the issue that RTexasF brought up. I would use my GPS and hunt for another station not too far away.

I guess I will give them a chance next time ... after RTexasF gives his thumbs up

Thanks to RTexasF for the update. I had to wonder whether the problem was with Valero gas from Texas, etc. refineries since we've used Valero gas in California quite a lot and have not had any problems with it, and mileage has been comparable to that we've had with Chevron and other "top tier" gasoline.

Yes let us know. Do you have a Costco(Top Tier) near you ? I have been using them, since they are cheaper than BP/Shell, for about 6 months and the Rav runs as well as those stations?
