My 08 vs the 2012

I had the opportunity to rent a 2012 Rav 4 6 cylinder 4wd and I must say what #@#. I would have never bought a Rav base on this noisy, poor brakes vehicle. I felt the ride was real firm, enough to get dental work done after driving it. What has Toyota done to this Rav? My 08 ride is smooth, brakes are stop firm not push firm on the pedal and the squeaks (seats, back door) . What makes this even worst is my Rav has 70, 000 miles on it and this Rav had only 15,000. I drove this for 2 weeks and was glad to not drive it after that, also it seems to slow on pick-up and gas mileage was 24 for city driving. Just putting my two cents in and hope Toyota is better the next Rav I buy.

I believe in safety, education, and enforcement, not banning, ignorance, and blame.

I am happy with it so far, except the back seats being to firm and the oil issue.

dtalk, I'm not sure what you are trying to express in your post. Were you saying that rental cars are junk (they are) and your cared for vehicle is not?
I think we would all agree to that.

If you are trying to compare a vehicle less than a year old that already has 15,000 miles on it and who knows how many drivers with a personally owned vehicle then i don't get it. My 2011 rav has about the same mileage as your rental and I experience none of those things. It's smooth riding (I don't have the sport) quiet and the brakes work great.

I rent all the time and believe me when I say that people beat the crap out of these cars. They drive over obstacles, drive in the wrong gear throw it into low gear to stop, you name it, they do it. A leased vehicle is different, I'm talking about daily rentals. I would never use a rental as a test drive vehicle unless I just wanted to compare types of vehicles; truck to a van or car to a hybrid or a similar comparison.

I apologize in advance if I misunderstood what you were saying.

Parav, no you did not misunderstand. You might be right on some people beat the heck on a rental, but come on this Rave was a 2012 and even with at that it seems like the quality of Toyota has come down a notch. It seems that I am not the only one to notice this as others have posted about this on different post. I thought they are just not happy about the Rav, but now I can see their point. That's all I guess I am saying here. Also I bought my Rav with 68,00 miles on and it was driven in rough terrain area since it was new(back dirt roads) and it rides better then this 2012 did.

Our new '12 RAV4 2.5 Base with touring package has been great so far. Good mileage, seats are a bit hard for sure but all around we are happy. The only grip with me is the rear tire mounted on the rear door. That is just me. The 2.5 has more than enough power plus lots of room for it's size. Maybe you got an abused rental but I believe Toyota has/is building a quality vehicle.

White 2012 RAV4. Our second new Toyota since our 1982 Toyota SR5 pickup. Hope it is just as good....
