Default Insurance change for RAV?

I was notified by my auto insurance (state farm) that they have derated the safety on my 2007 Rav from 5 star to 4 star and changed my rates accordingly. I have never heard of this happening but in wake of the multiple recalls (5, I think, and counting...) I've received maybe it is true. Curious to know if anyone else has had their Rav derated on safety?

I think this is controlled/regulated by the States. I may be wrong, but I think vehicle safety rating in all states is potentially different and ever-changing. Call and get more information?

Is State Farm basing this upon statistics which have to do with actual accidents, or is it simply an excuse to raise premium rates?

Increase maybe due to misdirected and unfair fallout from this? http://money.cnn.com/2012/12/20/auto...l?hpt=hp_t3air

How can a vehicle become "less safe" than the year in which it was manufactured? How can they change the safety regulations five years after it was built? This sounds very fishy to me. I would call your state insurance department.

I would shop insurance company's. At one point I switched 5 times in 5 years. I now have the cheapest one possible ,if they start playing games I will move on.
