Whether the extended service (warranty) plans are worth the cost is an individual decision, weighing potential risks and the cost for replacements/repairs against the costs for the extended service plans: Buying an Extended Warranty? READ THIS FIRST!!
Obviously reading posts about problems and costs in this forum can provide some info about risks. Those can be weighed against reports about RAV4 reliability in Consumer Reports and other magazines and sources.

You know he may be referring to the oil change/maintenance plan extension from the free 2 years to up to 5 years/ 75000k.
For us none DIYers it is something to think about. However, I have seen the price as high as $17k which is not cost effective and just a good old fashioned dealer rip off. I have seen it as low as $900 which includes major services for the 15/30/45/60/75k. A Toyota dealership near me honors competitor's coupons even as far as bringing down the cost of an oil change to $4.99. But peace of mind knowing all maintenance is covered for 5 years would be nice. .. the price just needs to be a little lower for me to bite.

Shop around - including the links in the "sticky" discussion at the top of this forum.
We bought a Toyota Platinum plan for 100,000 miles, 7 years, zero deductible, from Troy Dietch of Greenfield Toyota near Boston for our 2006 RAV4 - he charged us around $800 while the local Maryland dealers wanted nearly $2000 for the same warranty. For us, it has been great - we have saved way more than the cost of the warranty, mostly because of problems with the coil packs, but also for a few other things. And with a zero deductible, we don't worry about taking it in to have them fix something minor. BUT, you're gambling on having problems with vehicle. In the past, this wasn't likely with a Toyota, but modern ones aren't as reliable.

folks,
Forgive me for interrupting but I cannot figure out how to start a thread on this forum. I've email the web master but get no reply. I'm pretty web savvy but can't fine the "tread starter" to save my life. Thanks in advance. |

Jeffp25 - Toyota care plus is not a warranty but rather an extension of the free Toyota care maintenance package.
Jtwanabe - go into the forum of your choice and click New Thread at the top left of the posts.
