Gas mileage meeting up to expectations?

I've read where some owners are disappointed with the gas mileage of the 6 cyl. RAV4. Anybody care to post their mileage, driving habits, % hwy miles, city miles, etc.?

I'm on my third tank. 100% city miles (with steep hills) and averaging 18 or so per computer. I haven't done the manual way yet.

Our 2010 has about 35k miles. My wife's commute is five miles, either uphill or downhill, and crosses probably a dozen or more traffic lights each way. She gets in the low 20's MPG in this commute during rush hour.

We will average between 27-30 MPG at roughly 70MPH on the freeway. Going any faster results in a lot lower fuel economy as the aerodynamics and large frontal area become a problem.

Pretty surprising gas mileage for a relatively powerful V6 and only a 5-speed transmission, and in an SUV form factor.

Most of my driving is is a small town and surrounding area. The main street is largely level but we live at the top of a hill. In-town mileage (actual - dividing miles driven by gallons of fuel needed to fill the tank) ranges from 13.8 - 16.2. The best I have had was on a trip over the mountains (we're surrounded by them on three sides), lots of grades, curves, etc, plus 60 miles of Interstate driving over rolling hills, was 23.6 actual. The computer on my RAV is 1-6 mpg, usually 1-2 mpg, optimistic.

That is nuts. I get that kind of mileage around town in a lifted Tundra Crewmax 4x4 with the 5.7l and mud terrains. When we had our v6 RAV we averaged about 26mpg over the entire life (20k or so) with about 3k miles pulling a pop up camper.

On my recent road trip from NYC to orlando and back, i'm avg 24 MPG according to the computer. Total mileage ~ 2600 miles. Cruising mostly at 75 mph. Some city driving.

Yep it's nuts, but those are the actual facts. I've kept meticulous gas mileage records on all of my vehicles in my nearly six decades of driving. As I've metioned in other posts I got better mileage with my 1960 Ford Starliner hulk of a vehicle with 300HP V8, manual gearbox and overdrive. Toyota service techs say that there's nothing wrong with our RAV. Obviously from reading posts from some other RAV owners I'm not the only one with mileage in that ballpark.

2009 RAV4 V6 Sport with SAP and 4WD. My commute to work is about 3 miles, I average around 18-19mpg around town, best I have gotten for highway only driving was 29mpg with the cruise set to 60mph, anything above 60 and the mileage drops. Not quite sure how people are getting 29-30mpg at 70mph, I have to set the cruise at 55-60mph to get that kind of mileage.

2010 AWD V6, 20-21 around town. On my snowbird trips from NY to FL and back, 27-28 on cruise and 70mph.When traffic creeps up to 80, mileage drops to 25-26.
